Gary Showalter

Gary Winfred Showalter 69, of 5327 Montana Circle, Concord, NC, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at home, surrounded by family.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 1:00 P.M. at  Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel at 400 Branchview Dr. NE, Concord, NC. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 to 1:00 P.M.
Born on July 20, 1949 in Princeton, WV was the son of late Lawrence B. and Kathryn Showalter.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Viet Nam.  After his service he worked as an equipment operator.  He was a kind, gentle and caring person.  He volunteered for the visually handicapped at Lions Services and as a Disabled American Veterans (DAV) member, he frequently collected donations for the Concord DAV.  Nephew Charles Roberts   “He was extremely talented and had a great knack for understanding mechanical workings which included his collection of lawn and garden tractors”. Gary loved his family and his joy in life was spending time with the grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pamela Hill Showalter, three sons, Shawn  (Heather) of Texas , David  (April), and Brandon  (Lee) of Concord, NC-grandchildren, Jackson, Emma, and Skylar, and heartfelt grandchildren Isabella, Salena, Mike, Sony, &  Jack. He also leaves many loved nephews and nieces, with nephew Michael Roberts touching his heart.  He loved his sisters-in-law  Charlott Roberts (Glen) and Anita Lilly (Doug).
He is survived by sister, Patty Markell (John) of Roanoke, VA, brother, Kenneth Showalter, nephew, Kurt  (Christine) of Gastonia, NC and brother- in- arms, Jim Rose (Bobbie) of Hickory, NC.   Gary was preceded in death by brothers, Brian, Larry, and Randy.
