Douglas "Pop" James Traver, 63, of Norwood, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018.

He was born October 18, 1954 in New York to the late Wilmer Traver and Dorothy Burns Traver.

Doug was a sportsman, cook, and a master carpenter.  He enlisted  in the US Army in 1981, and served as a mess hall corporal until 1987.  He was a man of many stories, some of which grew longer and better every time that he told them.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved to spend outside time with his family and friends.  Doug never met a stranger and made many friends from coast to coast.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm-4:00pm , Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.

Survivors include wife, Sherrie Lee Traver,  sons; Alexander Traver (Melody Setzer), and Nicholas Traver (Nicole), daughters; Shawn Lee Scott (Quintin), and Crystie Farthing Cox (Chadwick Brattain); grandsons, Kevin Traver, Austin Traver, Kaleb Setzer, Kolby Setzer, Willie Scott, Sidriel Scott, Aiden Traver, and Harley Cox; granddaughters, Ceanna Traver, Gracelyn Traver, and Dyna Cox.  Doug is also survived by honorary children; Jeremy McGlynn, Michael Adams, Tony Kirk, Dale Cox, and Misty Loving.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Traver.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Traver family.
