Anthony “Kiwi” Riordan, age 70 of Riversdale, New Zealand died on Sunday, January 20, 2019 in his home in Charlotte, NC.
Kiwi was born November 25, 1948 to George and Marie Riordan. Kiwi grew up in Catholic School in New Zealand and had a passion for mechanics and cars since the age of 3. That passion led him to move to the United States, specifically California in the 1980’s where he took a job with Fisher Engines and would later move east to Charlotte, NC to work at Hendrick Motorsports in the mid 80’s.
Kiwi was known for his perfection and was able to live out his dream of working on engines and cars his entire life. While at Hendrick Motorsports for over 30 years, he worked on race engines, race cars, and later moved to a role as the premier engine builder and car builder for car collector and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick.
Kiwi is survived by his sister Anna Sutherland of Perth, Australia and his brother Jim Riordan of Heriot, New Zealand. Kiwi was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie, as well as his brother Gerald.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Kiwi at the Hendrick Motorsports Team Center, Tuesday January 29 at 4:30pm until 5:30pm officiated by Hendrick Motorsports Chaplain Donnie Floyd. There will be a time of fellowship after the service and dress is come as you are.
